Sr. Collier

 

Parish Life Director

Sr. Karen is a Sister of St. Louis.  Born in La Puente, Sr. Karen entered the sisterhood directly after High School. Her background includes elementary education and work with Youth Ministry on both the parish and diocesan level. God then directed Sr. Karen to further her education to become a Parish Life Director. Sr. Karen has been in that leadership role at both St. Agatha Church, Los Angeles, and Our Lady of Peace, North Hills.

Dr. John Wick

Principal

Dr. Wick has served in Catholic education for over 13 years. He was the founding principal for Christ Cathedral Academy in the Diocese of Orange. Dr. Wick is a Google Certified Innovator as well as a Google Level 2 Educator. Innovation and revitalizing Catholic schools are his expertise. Dr. Wick has taught every grade level from K-8 and has taught as a professor at Vanguard University's School of Graduate Education. He holds the following degrees: AA: Social and Behavioral Science; BA: Human Development; MA: Education; and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership with a specialization in teaching and learning. Dr. Wick also holds Catholic School Leadership Certification from Loyola Marymount University. In his spare time, he loves to create art, cook, and enjoys fishing. Dr. Wick Lives with his wife and three cats in Long Beach, California.

Ms. Gallegos

TK/K

Ms. Gallegos is beyond thankful to be part of the Holy Redeemer - St. James community. An alumn of Catholic education, she attended St. Andrews Elementary in Pasadena and La Salle High School.  Ms. Gallegos received her B.A. in Sociology from USF with an emphasis on Education. She also received her teaching credential. When she is not busy planning lessons for the TK and Kinder students, Mr. Gallegos enjoys eating, dancing, or just hanging out with family and friends.

Mrs. Tomasulo

1st Grade

Mrs. Tomasulo received her B.A. in International Business from San Diego State University and her Multiple subject teaching credential from Cal State Los Angeles. With over a decade of educational experience she has taught kindergarten, 1st grade, and 3rd grade classes as well as specialized in Intervention work. Ms. Tomasulo brings education to life with a focus on individualizing and maximizing educaitonal opportunities for her students. 

Ms. Fraire

2nd Grade

Ms. Fraire received her B.A. in Spanish from CSULA and her M.A. in Business Administration from Woodbury University.  She is currently working towards her Multiple Subject Credential at Loyola Marymount University.  Prior to teaching third grade, Ms. Fraire taught Spanish. Ms. Fraire enjoys reading, teaching Sunday School, and loves learning about different cultures. 

Ms. Starbuck

Ms Starbuck received her B.A. in Communications from The Pennsylvania State University.  She began her career focusing on advertising and magazine publishing and through a variety of different turns, program planning and marketing for youth-focused, non-profit organizations. Her work and family have taken her all over the globe, living in Boston, New York City, The United Kingdom, Los Angeles, and Atlanta.  When not sifting through cookbooks or dining out, Ms. Starbuck can be found traveling abroad, exploring cities, and spending time in the outdoors with her family.

Ms. Aghajanian

Front Office

Ms. Aghajanian is currently a graduate student who is pursuing her M.A. degree in Clinical Psychology, specializing in M.F.T. at Azusa Pacific University. She speaks Armenian, Farsi, English and some German. She loves working with kids which is why she has worked as an after-school teacher in the past. When she has some downtime, she enjoys going on hikes to explore nature, and she also enjoys spending time with her loved ones. Ms. Aghajanian looks forward to working at HRSJ every day with a positive mindset and energy!

Dr. Moran

3rd Grade

Dr. Moran joined Holy Redeemer - St James School in 2009.  She holds a Ph.D. and earned her B.S. and Teaching Credential from CSUN.  Ms. Moran says it was her 'magical' kindergarten teacher who inspired her to pursue a career in teaching primary school. Ms. Moran loves to teach and loves children. She doesn't consider this a job, but a joy.  She believes all children can learn, and she enjoys learning from them in return. 

Ms. Yamasaki

4th/5th Grade

Ms. Yamasaki is a Southern California native and is an alum of Catholic education. She attended Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary then Mayfield Senior School.  Ms. Yamasaki earned a B.A. in Music from Occidental College. She also earned her Teaching Credential and M.A. in Education from Loyola Marymount University. Prior to teaching, Ms. Yamasaki spent almost 7 years in the foodservice industry, opening and managing several top-rated L.A. restaurants - when she realized she wanted to do something more meaningful and she answered the call to become a teacher. In her spare time, Ms. Yamasaki enjoys running, dance class, and working as a Confirmation Catechist at her home parish. 

Mr. Currer

6th Grade

Mr. Currer has been the middle school English teacher since 2013, and for the last few years has coached the soccer team and served as the Athletics Director.  He has lived in Pasadena for 25 years having moved with his wife and family from his native England (Newcastle upon Tyne) where he graduated with a BA in Medieval & Modern History from University College London (UCL - part of London University).  After several years of postgraduate study in law, he worked for 20 years as a lawyer in London and Pasadena before becoming our English teacher. 

Ms. Olmedo

7th Grade

In addition to teaching seventh-grade homeroom, Ms. Olmedo teaches sixth, seventh, and eighth grade Math and Science.  Ms. Olmedo received her B.A. in Liberal Studies from CSUN is pursuing her graduate degree from Loyola Marymount University.  From a young age, Ms. Olmedo was interested in teaching and has worked with several grades at Holy Redeemer - St James School.  She has also been a parishioner since childhood and has worked with the Junior High and High School youth ministries in the Parish ("Edge" and "LifeTeen"). From a young age, Ms. Olmedo was interested in teaching. During her free time, she enjoys travel, reading, and camping. 

Ms. Placencia-Flores

8th Grade

In addition to teaching seventh-grade homeroom, Ms. Placencia-Flores  teaches sixth, seventh, and eighth grade Social Studies and Religion.  Miss Placencia Flores has lived in the suburbs of Los Angeles for the past 24 years of her life and considers herself a true Californian that eats Tacos every day. Her first years of school were in Guadalajara, where she went to Catholic Schools that set a great foundation for the remainder of her schooling. She holds a B.S. in Business Law from CSUN, a M.A. in Secondary Education from HIU & received her Social Science Credential from HIU as well. Prior to education, Miss Placencia Flores worked for Guadalupe Radio & volunteered as much as she could for the LA Archdioceses. In her free time she likes to horseback ride, read history books and does work for the Pastoral Juvenil of the Archdioceses. She's very happy to call her students, her angels!

Mr. Aguilar

Healthy Living

HRSJ is blessed to have Mr. Aguilar, Knowns as "Coach-A" by his students, as our Healthy living teacher. He has earned his AA in Physical Education from East Los Angles College, a B.A. in Kinesiology from CSU Dominguez hills, and an M.S. in Kinesiology from Azusa Pacific University.  He has served as a Personal Fitness Coach, Adapted PE Coach, PE Teacher, and Coach. With over four years of experience in teaching healthy living to students, his expertise in Kinesiology and his love for a balanced lifestyle makes him uniquely qualified to ensure our students are healthy and physically active. HRSJ is extremely grateful to the Community Foundation of the Verdugos and the Pinola Fund Advisory Board for the grant that has helped bring Mr. Aguilar to our campus!

Mrs. Proulx

Kinderland Aid

Mrs. Proulx received her undergraduate degree in Elementary and Special Education as well as her M.A. in Special Education from Providence College. Before moving to California, Mrs. Proulx taught Middle School and Elementary School Special Education in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and North Carolina. Mrs. Proulx loves working with the TK and Kindergarten students, bringing her joyful spirit and high energy to the classroom every day. 

Mrs. Proulx enjoys swimming, exercising, reading, volunteering at school, cooking, and being a hockey mom.
